Submersible pumps are important pieces of machinery for all types of properties, especially those that are used to getting water in the basement. Aside from pumping out unwanted water, these pumps are also used for pumping well water into buildings, keeping water flowing in ponds, and much more. Here’s how you can fix common Berkeley BVM pump issues.

If your deep well pump is not pumping water to your house, you will need to repair whatever issue is occurring immediately. If you don’t, you won’t be able to get water for showers, to drink, to clean the dishes or to flush the toilets. Most deep well pumps are at least 300 feet below the ground.

One of the most common issues that pump owners need to fix occurs with the motor. If the motor is not working, you might need to replace the starter switch. Once you replace the switch you can cut the power to the pump and clean the pressure switch contacts. This should be done using paper so you don’t cause any further damage.

Many pump owners will come across issues with the electrical connection. You can start this repair by checking the circuit breakers to make sure the one feeding your pump has not tripped. If you find a bad fuse, replace it immediately. If this did not work, the wiring could be the issue. Try to find any broken wires leading from the pump to the breaker. If you find broken wires be sure to replace them.

If the pump runs but water is still not going into your home, there could be a problem with the priming. Look into the pipe for water. If there is no water in the pipe, try to prime the pump again. Another issue that could be present is that the foot valve, pipe, and strainer are clogged. If this is the case, clean all of these of debris before running the pump.
